JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Two people were arrested and charged with theft after one of them allegedly made a false report of a robbery, according to Johnson City police.

The police department said officers responded to 607 Twin Oaks Drive on Friday afternoon regarding a reported robbery at another location.

According to police, an employee told officers that she was taking a business deposit to the bank and was stopped at a red light at the intersection of University Parkway and West State of Franklin when a man reached into her vehicle and took her backpack containing the deposit, her phone and her wallet containing more than $300.

During the investigation, police identified the complainant, April Trinchera, 35, of Johnson City, as a suspect. She was arrested and charged with false reporting and theft over $2,500.

The investigation then led officers to a local motel where they executed a search warrant in a room where Timothy Cohran, 43, of Johnson City was occupying. Officers reportedly found the stolen money in Cohran’s room.

Cohran was also arrested and charged with theft over $2,500.
