AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Two people are dead and one injured after what appears to be a public domestic dispute, resulting in a shooting.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the the Best Buy off of Walton Way Extension in reference to a shooting that took place in the parking lot. It happened around 6:15 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, the people involved know each other and the incident appears to be a domestic dispute, so there is no danger to the public.

“Based on witness statements and camera evidence, investigators have determined this was a domestic-related incident. Currently, there is no known threat to the public,” said Chief Lewis Blanchard.

A young child was present but was not injured. Augusta Fire Department firefighters and RCSO deputies remained with the child until DFACS personnel arrived to ensure his care and safety.

Coroner Mark Bowen was called to the scene and has confirmed that two individuals have died after being shot at least once. Another individual was involved and is currently being treated at an area hospital for non life threatening injuries.

In a statement, Sheriff Eugene Brantley said the following:

“Our hearts go out to the child who was present during this senseless tragedy. No child should ever have to experience such trauma. As a community, we must come together to support him and others who are affected. Violence is never the answer to our problems—it only leaves behind grief, pain, and broken families. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working with our community to prevent violence and ensure safety for every resident.”
