GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) responded to a crash in Greene County Saturday morning after a person was reportedly ejected from a vehicle on Newport Highway.

A crash report from the THP stated that a Jeep Compass was traveling northbound on Newport Highway and slowed down to turn left onto Culbertson Road when a Ford F150, also traveling northbound, failed to slow down as it approached the Jeep.

The Jeep reportedly swerved to the left to avoid being hit by the Ford, but the Ford struck the Jeep in the rear. The impact caused the Jeep to spin to the left, roll over, and then slide off the roadway before colliding with a guardrail. After rolling over the top of the guardrail, the Jeep came to rest on its left side.

A backseat passenger in the Jeep was ejected from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital via helicopter for treatment of injuries, the THP said.

The driver of the Jeep was also taken to the hospital with injuries. A front-seat passenger and a five-year-old child in the backseat of the Jeep were not injured, according to the report.

The report said the driver of the Ford F150 was charged with following too closely and was not injured.
