Two people hurt in head-on collision near Champaign

HENSLEY TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people were hurt when their cars crashed into each other north of Champaign on Friday.

The crash happened in the 4700 block of North Market Street, located in Hensley Township. Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman said his deputies responded at 3:51 p.m. and discovered a minivan and sedan had collided head-on.

The investigation determined that the sedan was traveling southbound when it tried to pass another southbound vehicle, While the sedan was in the northbound lane, it crashed into the northbound minivan.

The driver of the sedan was an 18-year-old female from Downers Grove. Heuerman said she had to be extricated from her car and transported to a local hospital. Her injuries were described as serious, but she is expected to survive.

The driver of the minivan was a 64-year-old woman from Newman. She was taken to the hospital as well with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
