Tybee Island Police Probe Unpermitted Event Sparks Gunfire Incident

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. — The Tybee Island Police Department (TIPD) is currently investigating a shooting incident that took place during an unauthorized, spontaneous gathering on Saturday evening.

TIPD reported that around 6:30 p.m., a large crowd had assembled near the pier and pavilion. Officers present heard multiple gunshots, which caused the attendees to flee the scene.

In response, off-duty TIPD officers quickly arrived to provide support. They were soon joined by officers from the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), Chatham County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), and Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

“Once the event was dispersed, our officers began coordinating the investigation and ensuring public safety,” stated a press release from TIPD. “As of now, no suspects have been identified, and there have been no reports of injuries.”

The investigation is ongoing, and residents may notice a heightened police presence in the area. TIPD is urging anyone with information to reach out to them.
