BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A “major drug dealer” and known gang leader was arrested after a pursuit on Interstate 81 in Tennessee and Virginia on Monday, U.S Marshals announced.

According to a news release from United States Marshal David G. Jolley, Jametrick Franklin King was previously wanted out of Washington County, Tennessee for violation of probation and burglary charges.

King was also under a federal indictment out of U.S. District Court in Greeneville for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, Jolley stated.

“Eastern District of Tennessee U. S. Marshals and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) attempted to effect an arrest of King in Kingsport, but King spotted a marked vehicle just before officers moved in,” Jolley said in the release. “King became spooked and fled at a high rate of speed.”

King reportedly drove his vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway at speeds over 100 miles per hour while being pursued by THP.

Shortly after the pursuit crossed into Virginia, King crashed his vehicle on I-81. He was extracted from the vehicle and taken to the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

After being released from the hospital without any injuries, King was taken to the Carter County Jail, where he is awaiting an initial court appearance on his charges.

“King has a long and violent criminal history that includes aggravated robbery and sale and delivery of controlled substances,” Jolley said. “He also has a history of evading arrest and has run from law enforcement several times in the past. King is a known leader of the Gangster Disciples street gang in Knoxville.”
