OVIEDO, Fla. – A startling incident unfolded last week involving a University of Central Florida professor and a student on an e-bike. The professor, identified as Shuo Sean Pang, aged 41, was taken into custody after allegedly pursuing the student and knocking off his helmet, according to local law enforcement.

The incident, detailed in an arrest affidavit, took place on the morning of October 14, in the vicinity of the Oviedo Aquatic Center. Police reports indicate that the student was en route to school when Pang called out, instructing him to reduce his speed.

Despite Pang’s urging, the student chose to maintain his pace. Consequently, Pang is said to have followed him to Jackson Heights Middle School, where the situation escalated. There, Pang reportedly grabbed the student’s arm, leading to the confrontation that resulted in his arrest.

The affidavit states that the student refused to slow down, however, and Pang reportedly followed him to Jackson Heights Middle School and eventually grabbed his arm.

The student told Pang to let him go, but Pang instead smacked the helmet off his head and struck him, police said.

The student’s friend was eventually able to get between them to stop the scuffle, police noted.

Pang then pushed the student’s friend and purportedly continued toward him “in an aggressive manner” before school staff were able to intervene and diffuse the situation, the affidavit says.

“In his statement, Sean admitted to chasing (the student) after telling him to stop riding his bike,” the affidavit reads. “He also advised he followed him to Jackson Heights Middle School, identified him, and requested (that the student) apologize.”

Pang was arrested on charges of trespassing on school grounds and two counts of battery.

Pang is listed on UCF’s website as a professor at the College of Optics and Photonics.

UCF on Tuesday said Pang was placed on paid administrative leave as the university “follows our processes and reviews this matter.”

Pang’s arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 18.
