BIG STONE GAP, Va. (WJHL) – On Tuesday, law enforcement took a man into custody at Union Primary School in Big Stone Gap. This followed a tip-off to the school resource officer about a domestic issue involving someone present on the school grounds, as reported by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office.
The individual in question, Steven Douglass Quillen from Big Stone Gap, was apprehended due to an active warrant related to domestic assault and battery charges, according to an official statement.
Authorities revealed that Quillen was at the school intending to pick up his child but refused to provide identification to school staff while in the lobby. Subsequently, a deputy approached Quillen and asked him to step outside the premises.
“After further dialogue, Mr. Quillen complied with Deputy Kirk,” stated the sheriff’s office in their announcement. “At this point, it was confirmed that he had an active warrant for domestic assault and battery, along with an active emergency protective order. Mr. Quillen was then peacefully taken into custody.”
Currently, Quillen is detained at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail located in Duffield, and his release is contingent on posting a secured bond.
