RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) – The Union girls basketball team’s pursuit of a championship title ended in disappointment on Friday as they were defeated by Clarke County, 67–56, in the VHSL Class 2 state title game.

The Bears relied heavily on their star players to stay in the competition. Katelynn Witt was a standout performer, scoring an impressive 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, achieving a double-double. Kailee Rentfrow also made a significant impact, scoring 14 points and securing 13 rebounds.

However, Clarke County’s offense was the decisive factor in the game. Alainah McKavish led the Eagles with 22 points, and she was among four Clarke County players who scored in double digits.

Union managed to keep the game close throughout, but the Eagles’ scoring depth proved too much to handle. Clarke County eventually pulled away in the second half, clinching the state championship.
