HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Ga. () – Excitement is building as United Way of the Coastal Empire
kicks off its 2026 campaign. The massive fundraiser has supported our region for decades. Hundreds of community leaders, nonprofits, and volunteers will gather to support programs across five counties.

The Savannah Convention Center will be buzzing later today with more than 700 people – all coming together with one goal: to raise money and support for the Coastal Empire. It’s more than just a luncheon – it’s the start of a fundraising campaign that has helped support thousands of residents for decades.

At the heart of the event is United Way’s community fund… an engine that powers everything from early literacy programs to emergency assistance services. This year’s campaign theme, “join the journey,” highlights the importance of meeting the region’s most pressing needs. One of the most anticipated moments today will be the announcement of the fundraising goal, which is something the organization has never shared at a kickoff. Organizers say the momentum from today will carry through months of community fundraising efforts.

“This year’s campaign theme is ‘join the journey’, which has been a lot of fun to just be excited about. It’s really a call to action for our entire community to come together to support one another, which is what United Way does so well,” said Kimberly Waller, CEO of the United Way of the Coastal Empire.

The kickoff luncheon takes place at the Savannah Convention Center starting at 11 a.m. Ryan Chandler, the Chief Commercial Officer of Colonial Group, is serving as campaign chair this year.

Also on the agenda: recognizing local leaders with the Craig Harney Spirit of Philanthropy Award. United Way CEO Kimberly Waller says this kickoff is more than just an event – it’s a rallying moment for the entire region. For those who can’t attend in person, a special campaign video will premiere during a broadcast at 5:30 p.m. today.

United Way’s efforts have reached over 200,000 people across the coastal empire – and that’s just the beginning. Leaders tell me over 100 businesses and community groups are involved this year. If you’d like to help, you can go to United Way’s website to learn more, donate, and volunteer.
