AIKEN, Sc. ()- A senior home called, Cumberland Village, has residents that are heading back to class on their own terms.
These adults take classes through the Center for Lifelong Learning which is on USC Aiken’s campus.
But now Cumberland Village has partnered with Center for Lifelong Learning to make a new program called “Cumberland University”.
It’s a new way to recognize residents who take six or more courses.
Once residents complete their sixth class, they’ll receive a Cumberland University diploma in a spring graduation ceremony.
Today several residents will board a bus, school-style, to attend the university’s open house
This gives them the chance to have that feeling of going back to school.
And they tell me why the decided to have buses transport the residents.
“It just makes things easier for them more accessible. Not everybody has a car or likes to drive or find parking or, you know, we just drop them off at the front door and off they go,” said Suzanne Deegan, director of activities for Cumberland Village.
USCA classes officially start August 19th.
