CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The University of Illinois has introduced an innovative initiative to ease military veterans into university life.
At the heart of this initiative is the Chez Veterans Center, which serves as a comprehensive facility dedicated to those who have served in the military, providing resources such as transitional living arrangements, academic mentoring, and additional support services. This new endeavor includes housing aid, personalized support, and career preparation to aid veterans in navigating their journey into higher education, with organizers highlighting its vital role in paving a clear path to success.
“Military service reshapes individuals, molding them to fit into the rigors of military life. However, once their service ends, they’re suddenly cut off from these structures and expected to adapt independently. Our objective is to bridge this gap by providing the necessary leadership and support to guide them through this transition,” explained Andrew Bender, Director of the Chez Veteran Center.
Bender noted that when considering the costs, the program accounts for both the University of Illinois tuition fees and the on-campus housing expenses.
