University of Illinois Students Share Surprising Reactions to Recent Weather Shifts

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Central Illinois experienced a dramatic weather shift this week, starting with snow and transitioning to temperatures exceeding 70 degrees. This warmer weather comes as a relief to Fighting Illini fans gearing up for tailgating during the upcoming football game against Maryland.

Connor Kuntz, a University of Illinois student, plans to attend both the basketball game against Colgate on Friday and the football game on Saturday.

WEATHER UPDATE: Expect significant temperature fluctuations tonight, with numerous rain possibilities in the week ahead.

“I wasn’t expecting such a change,” Kuntz remarked. “During the Texas Tech game, it was quite cold, with some water on the ground that soaked my shoes and socks, leaving my toes freezing.”

Kuntz anticipates different conditions for Saturday’s football game, thanks to the improved weather.

Other students are soaking up the sun while they still have the chance.

“It makes my mood better, I feel like I’m happier when it’s warmer,” said U of I senior Margaret Jay. “We’re on a walk. We don’t have class so we’re just walking.”

Plus, she said the warm weather is making sure she enjoys the penultimate home football game of her college career.

“We’re going to the tailgates going to the game and enjoy the weather,” said Jay.

Would she have gone to the game if it was still snowy?

“Probably not,” Jay said. “No, I’d probably be inside all day.”
