TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The University of South Florida has appointed Chris Mack as the new head coach for their men’s basketball team.
Mack steps into the role following Bryan Hodgson’s move to take on the head coaching position at Providence.
“I am genuinely thrilled to lead the South Florida basketball team, which is on an impressive path forward, and become part of a university and sports department marked by strong leadership, common goals, and remarkable unity,” Mack expressed. “The outstanding vision and dedication that Rob shared are truly motivating, and I am thankful for his confidence in my ability to lead Bulls basketball. I look forward to engaging with Bulls Nation, the students at the SoFlo Rodeo, and the devoted fans who make the Yuengling Center an extraordinary home court.”
Over the past two seasons, Mack has been with the College of Charleston, achieving 20 wins in each season.
Prior to his stint at Charleston, Mack was the head coach at Louisville from 2018-2022, where he took the Cardinals to the NCAA Tournament once.

Before taking over as the head coach at Lousville, Mack was the head coach at Xavier from 2009-2018 and took the Muskateers to eight NCAA Tournaments including four trips to the Sweet 16 and one trip to the Elite 8.
He was named the national coach of the year in 2016.
