In Tampa, Florida, the University of Florida has introduced an innovative, free microcourse aimed at empowering individuals to confidently integrate artificial intelligence into their everyday lives.
This program is tailored for those without a technical background, offering practical, adaptable, and self-paced learning experiences suitable for everyone, regardless of their field.
Named “AI Whisperer: A Microcourse in Crafting Prompts for Generative AI,” the course educates participants on selecting appropriate AI tools and crafting prompts that yield high-quality outputs for reports, presentations, and visual content.
The course developers, consisting of university faculty experts, identified that one of the primary hurdles for newcomers to AI is mastering the art of prompting.
“Feedback from learners across various industries and backgrounds indicated a desire for more hands-on, step-by-step guidance with AI tools,” explained John Licato, an associate professor at the USF Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Computing. “We developed the AI Whisperer microcourse to address this need, focusing on practical application and helping participants build the confidence to create effective prompts for quality results.”
The course and another AI-focused microcourse, “GenAI in Action: Impact and Possibilities,” were created by USF’s Innovative Education in collaboration with faculty experts from the USF College of Education and the USF Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Computing.
Registration for both microcourses is available through the USF Office of Microcredentials.
