SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The spotlight was on Chatham County’s young scholars as they showcased their spelling prowess on Tuesday evening.
The annual district spelling bee, held at Savannah State University’s Student Union Building, saw elementary and middle school students demonstrating their impressive spelling abilities.
This event followed several months of school-level competitions. Enthusiastic parents, teachers, and classmates filled the venue, cheering on the spellers as they tackled challenging words with poise.
“Seeing parents overcome with emotion for their children is truly moving,” remarked Lorraine Bowers, President of the Chatham Association of Educators. “It’s incredible to witness the community’s involvement—from the school system to organizations like SCAD and Savannah State, which have generously supported us with donations, alongside contributions from book companies. It truly is a community event.”
The standout spellers from Tuesday will advance to the Regional District Spelling Bee, set to take place in the near future.
