Urbana Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Attempted Murder of Wife

An Urbana resident has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after admitting to a violent altercation involving his wife. The incident took place last year and has culminated in a guilty plea.

On April 22, Rafael Magdaleno-Mendoza appeared in court, where he confessed to attempted murder. He received a 15-year sentence from the Illinois Department of Corrections, with 353 days of time already served being credited towards his sentence.

As part of the plea agreement, several other charges against Magdaleno-Mendoza were dropped:

  • Aggravated criminal sexual assault with a threat toward life
  • Aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon
  • Aggravated domestic battery
