Urbana Park District Celebration Shines in Community Spotlight: A Vibrant Showcase of Local Unity and Growth

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — In an exciting development for the Urbana community, Jameel Jones from the Urbana Park District joined WCIA 3’s Taylor Mitchell to share details about a special event on the horizon.

The park district is gearing up to host a free celebration marking the first anniversary of the Urbana Health and Wellness Center (HAWC). This event promises a variety of activities for attendees, including a photo booth, pickleball games, guided tours, and more, all set within the vibrant facility.

In discussing the center’s success, Jones highlighted that the initial membership target for the year was 800. Impressively, this goal was not only met but surpassed, with more than 2,000 members now engaged with the center. In 2025 alone, the HAWC has welcomed over 50,000 visits. Responding to community demand, the center extended its operating hours within its first week to better serve its patrons.

The celebratory event is scheduled for January 2, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the HAWC, located at 2002 E Washington Street in Urbana. Convenient parking will be available onsite, and for those who need to park further away, the park district is offering shuttle services to ensure easy access for all attendees.
