Urbana Schools Celebrate 100 Years of Black History Month with Special Events

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Residents across Central Illinois gathered to mark the onset of Black History Month with various events over the weekend.

In Urbana, the local school district opened its doors to the community for the annual celebration of Black history on Sunday, honoring the legacy of Janice Mitchell. Attendees explored a display highlighting Black historical inventions, participated in book and bracelet-making activities, and enjoyed performances by the high school orchestra alongside vocal renditions by students and faculty.
