URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — An Urbana man accused of shooting a woman and sending her to the hospital appeared in court on Wednesday for his arraignment.

21-year-old Noah Allen, is accused of shooting his 21-year-old girlfriend. The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, across the street from Urbana Middle School.

Allen is facing three charges, one of those being attempted first degree murder, with a maximum sentence of 55 years. He’s also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felon.

It’s not Allen’s first run in with the law. He pleaded guilty to burglary in March 2023. Court records also show Allen has an active no stalking and no contact order against him.

Champaign County State’s Attorney, Julia Reitz, also shared more details of the case from Tuesday.

She said that the victim’s sister said that she pepper sprayed Allen and took the gun from him after the shooting. Reitz said that the police found Allen nearby with blood on him and smelling of alcohol. Additionally, before the victim went into surgery, she told police they were arguing because Allen was drunk, he tried forcing her into a car, and was threatening to shoot her with a gun. The victim also said yesterday was not the first time Allen had threatened her with a gun.

Allen will stay in jail until they decide to keep him there or release him at his detention hearing Thursday morning.
