45-year-old Urbana woman arrested for murder of 70-year-old, third homicide since Friday

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Police Department is investigating a third homicide in less than a week.

Police officers responded to Laurel Drive around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday for a report of an injured person. When officers arrived, they found a 70-year-old man from Urbana with an apparent stab wound.

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene, despite efforts to save his life, according to Urbana police.

Illinois State Police assisted Urbana detectives in processing the crime scene. Police “developed leads” and located Sharon Moore, a 45-year-old Urbana resident.

She was arrested for outstanding warrants, obstruction of justice, first-degree murder, and has been transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center.

The Champaign County Coroner’s Office will determine an official cause of death after an autopsy. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the victim’s family members.

Officers are canvassing the area for witnesses and video footage that may help the investigation.
