ATLANTA — Authorities are actively pursuing a Georgia inmate who made a brazen escape from a hospital and is currently deemed armed and dangerous.
According to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old Timothy Shane was transported to a hospital in Atlanta on Sunday evening. However, in the early hours of Monday, around 1 a.m., Shane managed to flee the medical facility, subsequently stealing a nearby SUV to aid his getaway.
Shane, who had been incarcerated on charges involving drugs and weapons, abandoned the SUV after a crash and reportedly took a Glock handgun from the vehicle, intensifying the urgency of the search.
On Monday, officials revealed that surveillance footage captured him stealing a Pontiac Grand Prix in the vicinity of Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. This vehicle was later discovered outside a grocery store in Henry County, roughly 33 miles south of downtown Atlanta.
At the time of his escape, Shane was clad in a blue hospital gown and barefoot, but he later changed into more casual attire, donning a red hoodie and dark blue pants as he continues to evade capture.
Shane ordered an Uber to a home in south Rockdale, but law enforcement didn’t find him there, according to the sheriff’s office.
The department asked anyone with information about his escape to call or email.
