HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — A palpable tension gripped Hardeeville Junior & Senior High School as it entered lockdown mode following the unsettling discovery of a live round of ammunition in one of its bathrooms. The incident unfolded amidst a routine safety inspection by school staff.
The Jasper County School District, in a swift response to the potential threat, decided to place the school on lockdown as a precautionary measure. This decisive action was accompanied by thorough inspections of classrooms and students’ book bags to ensure that no further weapons or ammunition were present.
The Hardeeville Police Department was promptly called to the scene to assist in managing the situation and ensuring the safety of students and staff.
To bolster security further, the Jasper County School District announced plans to increase the presence of security personnel on the Hardeeville campus for an indefinite period. “We will also enhance our regular security protocols by incorporating additional walk-arounds,” the district stated, reinforcing their commitment to student safety.
Currently, the school employs metal detectors and bag scanners to prevent weapons from entering the campus. However, the appearance of a live round of ammunition has raised questions about security lapses, leaving school officials to investigate how it was brought onto school grounds.
