AIKEN, S.C. () – The University of South Carolina Aiken’s School of Nursing has received a significant boost in the form of a $2 million grant from the state, aimed at equipping future healthcare professionals with essential skills.
Dr. Katie Chargualaf, the dean of the School of Nursing, expressed that this funding will provide students with more realistic, hands-on learning opportunities.
“By upgrading our equipment and modernizing our high-fidelity simulation lab, students will be able to train in settings that closely resemble actual healthcare environments,” Chargualaf explained. “These improvements will enable us to simulate hospital rooms, complex patient conditions, and emergency scenarios effectively.”
The university noted that the grant will also be used to enhance audiovisual technology, allowing students to better engage with simulation studies. In addition, the funds will support classroom renovations.
Officials highlighted that these developments are in line with both the strategic plans of the School of Nursing and the broader goals of USCA.
The $2 million USCA’s School of nursing is recieving is part of a larger $150 million-dollar Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 spending package that was recently approved for the state of South Carolina.
