The United States Postal Service (USPS) is seeking approval from a regulatory body to temporarily increase prices on several services due to escalating transportation costs.
In a statement released Wednesday, USPS described the proposed price adjustment as a “time-limited price change.” They noted that this measure might act as a “necessary bridge to a permanent mechanism” for funding USPS operations in the future.
USPS did not provide immediate details on what this permanent funding mechanism might entail.
The release stated, “The time-limited price change aligns with industry practices and will bolster the Postal Service’s ability to continue fulfilling its public service mission. This involves maintaining a nationwide, integrated network for delivering mail and packages at least six days a week in a cost-effective and financially sustainable way, as intended by the U.S. Congress.”
