DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Despite the cold temperatures, a men’s homeless shelter in Vermilion County is still not open.

Last month, the Danville Rescue Mission planned to allow people into shelter a few days before Christmas, but the president said there is still an issue. He said the shelter is struggling to find insurance both in the area and out of the state.

He said it might be because of the building’s previous owners.

“They had insured the same buildings that we’re trying to insure in the same properties. So that’s causing kind of a clink in the road for lack of a better word,” said President of The Danville Rescue Mission Michael Ewing. “There was a substantial payout from a claim from the VCR organization.”

Ewing said there are beds, food and working water ready for people. He also said anyone who can help make this process faster should reach out to him.
