VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — After taking in over 100 cats and dogs in the last two weeks, the Vermilion County Animal Shelter is out of room and hoping the community will help.

On Saturday, the shelter took to Facebook to share that they are completely out of space for dogs. And, they added that if you’re looking for a sign to adopt, this is it.

From now until the end of the month, adoption fees are reduced. You can come in, submit an application and adopt a pet that same day.

Adult dogs are $50, puppies are $150 and all cats are $20. If you’re not able to adopt right now but still want to help, there are a couple things you can do instead:

  • Donate treats — The shelter needs lots of treats for training, and if you want to help, you can purchase treats to bring to the shelter. The shelter recommends soft, jerky-type treats that can be broken into different pieces (like Pup-Peroni) or small “training” treats. You can dop them off at the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
  • Purchase a ticket for the Adult Prom fundraiser — Tickets are $50 for general public or $75 per couple. The money goes to caring for the animals at the shelter.
  • Foster a shelter animal — Even if you can’t commit long term, consider providing temporary care for an animal in need.
