In Tampa, Florida, the legal battle intensifies as attorneys meticulously sift through a vast array of evidence against Leo Govoni. Govoni, a businessman from Pinellas County, has been held accountable for the mysterious disappearance of over $100 million from the bankrupt Center for Special Needs Trust Administration.
Our investigation revealed insights from Sean Burke, one of the numerous individuals claiming to be victims of this financial debacle.
Burke expressed his deep frustration over the lack of clarity and echoed the sentiment shared by nearly 2,000 alleged victims, all of whom are eager for answers and justice.
With palpable anger in his voice, Burke condemned Govoni, calling him a coward.
Determined to uncover the truth behind the non-profit’s downfall, Burke has a direct message for Govoni and demands accountability for the organization’s financial collapse.
“Anyone that steals from disabled people, they have a certain place in hell,” he said.
Burke had an incident at a hospital years ago that left him a quadriplegic. He did reach a settlement with that hospital in 2023. His attorney advised him to put that money into a trust, which is how he heard about Govoni.
He said Govoni allegedly stole half a million dollars from him.
“I feel like Leo has really let a lot of people down,” Burke said.
None of the alleged victims have seen any of the money, according to Burke.
“Where did it go?” he said.
Last week, Govoni had another status hearing in federal bankruptcy court, where the attorneys said they are running into delays because there is so much evidence to review.
Burke said he believes justice will eventually be served.
“There’s no way he will ever win in court,” he said.
Currently, Govoni’s trial is scheduled for February of next year, but Burke thinks it will be pushed back again.
