SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — The Fox 8 I-Team obtained new video that shows the moments a young kidnapped victim from Indiana was found.
The video from Shaker Heights police shows the 3-year-old girl in the back seat of a vehicle located in a grocery store parking lot in Cleveland. The girl appeared happy, and officers said she was in good condition.
Shaker Heights police said the young girl was reunited with her mother a short time later.
Police said she was taken from her mother Jan. 7. Police said the mother’s ex-boyfriend assaulted her and kidnapped the little girl.
According to Capt. Jeremy Webb, of the Fort Wayne Police Department, even though the child was abducted on Jan. 7, the report couldn’t be filed until the mother could provide paperwork proving that she had sole custody. A missing person’s report was filed for the little girl on Monday, March 3, at about 2:30 p.m.
Police arrested the mother’s ex-boyfriend, Shaquille Thomas. Shaker Heights police and officers with the Orange Village Police Department pulled over the ex-boyfriend’s vehicle near Interstate 271 and Chagrin Boulevard on March 5.
Thomas was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail on a warrant for assault and for domestic violence charges out of Fort Wayne.
He is expected to be in an Indiana courtroom soon to face the charges.
Police did not tell us if Thomas is related to the young girl. They did say the girl’s mother is the custodial parent.
