(NEXSTAR) – A Massachusetts native visiting San Jose to cheer on the Patriots in the Super Bowl found himself smitten with the city despite experiencing two major setbacks: his team’s defeat and the theft of his rental car.
Marc Lewis shared his newfound admiration for the South Bay area on Instagram Saturday evening.
“I’m genuinely amazed by San Jose. This place is really cool, without a doubt,” he expressed.
He elaborated on his impressions, saying, “It’s difficult to explain, but it’s simultaneously lively and laid-back. It’s like it’s bustling yet peaceful at the same time.” As someone familiar with San Jose, that description truly resonates.
A digital content creator and podcast host, Lewis went on to commend the city’s “Latino flair,” likening it to Lawrence, Massachusetts—yet more relaxed, serene, and vibrant.
Lewis’ video was shared widely, including by the San Jose Downtown Association. It had more than 2,200 comments as of Monday morning.
The next morning, he posted an update. San Jose’s shine was fading. Lewis thought his car, which he parked at Saint James Park, had been towed.
But someone in the comments section broke the news: “Honey it was stolen. Not towed.”
Then another update: “After talking with San Jose PD, my rental car was actually stolen. So you people that called in the comments section … you’re 100% right.”
But his viral fame had already served him well. He said a local lawyer had already reached out to help him, and the police department was investigating. He thanked the entire Bay Area community for their support.
“You Bay Area people have been amazing to me this whole week, I had no idea how this week was gonna go for me, but wow was it worth it,” Lewis wrote.
“San Jose is dope,” he capped off his initial video about the city. “All in all, I think it’s hella underrated. I want to see this city keep coming up and I want to come back here.”
After everything he has been through, is that still true? Nexstar reached out to Lewis to ask him. We’ll update this story if we hear back.
For what it’s worth, he doesn’t seem bitter about the Patriots’ loss, either. “No excuses, the better team won today,” he posted after the Super Bowl Sunday night. The Seattle Seahawks handily beat the Pats 29-13.
