LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. () — A mile-long walk was held Saturday morning in honor of a suicide victim.

Khyla Dennis was only 13 years old when she took her own life. Since, her family has founded the Khyla N. Dennis Memorial Foundation to honor Khyla through suicide awareness and prevention.

In observance of suicide prevention month, the foundation organizes an annual walk to honor those lost to suicide and to bring awareness to the community that preventing suicide can save lives.

Pamela Dennis is Khyla’s mother and the president of the Khyla N. Dennis Memorial Foundation, spoke on the foundation’s mission:

“Just want the community to know that they’re not alone, that we are here and that we’re concerned [about] suicide,” said Pamela Dennis, the president of Khyla N. Dennis Memorial Foundation. “Just to get the word out to advocate for prevention and awareness because we do believe that prevention saves lives.”

The organization’s next event will feature a 5K run aimed at raising funds for the KND Foundation Scholarship. You can find out more information about it here.
