GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – On Saturday, skilled rescue teams successfully carried out the evacuation of residents stranded by rising floodwater near a property on Little Cassi Creek Road in Chuckey, TN.
The Washington County/Johnson City Emergency Management Agency (WCJCEMA) reported that they received an urgent 911 call at 4:45 p.m. as torrential rain inundated the region, triggering the emergency response.
A coordinated effort was launched involving Washington County 911, Washington County/Johnson City EMS (WCJCEMS), the Nolichuckey Valley Fire Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and WCJCEMA to manage the rescue operations efficiently.
WCJCEMA officials noted that upon their arrival, the floodwaters intensified rapidly, becoming increasingly perilous. Due to the swift response of the WCJCEMA team specializing in swift water rescues, the residents were safely relocated to a secure area until the threat subsided. Fortunately, no injuries were recorded.
“Everyone involved trusted their training and made good decisions,” James Matthews, Public Affairs Officer for WCJCEMA and WCJCEMS said. “Because of that, everyone went home safely which is always our goal.”
The WCJCEMA said that Washington County will remain under a Flood Watch through late Sunday night into Monday morning.
