WESTMONT, Ill. — A mischievous raccoon gave a local Westmont family quite the scare when it inadvertently opened their garage and then gained access to their home. The family initially feared they were dealing with a human intruder.
“I think we both went pale,” recounted Cissy Rallo, describing how she and her daughter reacted to the unexpected noises. “Instead of arming ourselves with something like a bat, we rushed downstairs armed only with our phones.”
Once downstairs, they discovered the culprit—a raccoon clinging to the door that connects their garage to the basement. Captured in cell phone footage, the raccoon can be seen gripping the door and frame, accidentally pressing the button that controls the garage door.
“He used his paws, and the door just kept going up and down,” Rallo explained.
In its attempt to navigate, the raccoon also managed to push down on the handle of the door leading into their home, causing it to swing open while the animal dangled precariously.
“I just assumed he was scared to death of us,” Rallo said.
She showed no fear in the video as her daughter could be heard worrying about how close she was getting to the fat trash panda. Clearly the creature has some skills dumpster diving.
Rallo eventually coaxed the critter down and out of her garage.
“This can only happen in my Twilight Zone world,” Rallo joked.
