HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — A raccoon’s escapade at a Virginia ABC store in Hanover County captured national headlines after the mischievous animal broke in and was discovered intoxicated in the store’s bathroom. Now, newly released footage offers a glimpse into this peculiar event.
On the morning of Saturday, Nov. 29, Officer Samantha Martin from Hanover County Animal Protection received an unexpected call from the Ashland ABC store, setting the stage for an unusual encounter.
Officials reported that the raccoon had made its way into the store the previous night. Once inside, it wreaked havoc by destroying numerous bottles and overturning several shelves.
The chaotic spree ended with the raccoon drunk and collapsed in the bathroom, unable to continue its antics.

On Wednesday, Dec. 3, Virginia ABC unveiled surveillance footage capturing the event. Prior concerns had suggested that no video might be available, as the raccoon reportedly disabled the security cameras during its dramatic entrance through the store’s ceiling.
In the video, you can see the raccoon in one of the store’s aisles, drunkenly swaying as he steps through smashed bottles and puddles of alcohol.

According to Virginia ABC, 14 bottles of spirits were damaged by the raccoon during its drunken stupor. They were worth a combined total of about $250.
