Weber City Police Chief commends 'quick actions' of officers who were assaulted during traffic stop

WEBER CITY, Va. (WJHL) — One person was arrested Wednesday after a high-speed pursuit in Weber City.

According to the Weber City Police Department (WCPD), an officer attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 23.

The driver reportedly refused to stop, resulting in a pursuit that reached speeds more than 100 mph, the police department stated.

The pursuit continued onto side roads, and ended at a river where the driver was arrested, WCPD reported.

As of Thursday, the driver is being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.

The WCPD thanked all agencies involved, including the Gate City Police Department, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police.
