SUGAR GROVE, Va. (WJHL) — Authorities apprehended a man on Sunday night in Smyth County, who was previously identified as a fugitive from West Virginia. The arrest followed a dramatic chase during which the suspect allegedly shot at deputies’ vehicles.
As per a statement from the Smyth County Virginia Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted to a vehicle theft in Sugar Grove around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, prompting them to issue a “Be on the Lookout (BOLO)” alert.
Within roughly an hour, a Smyth County deputy spotted the stolen vehicle in Marion. Upon attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the driver reportedly chose to flee, sparking a pursuit.
