WESTVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — In Westville, the recreation baseball league park in town was damaged on Tuesday due to the high winds.

Officials with the league said there were large tree limbs down and fencing and side panels were also damaged. Thankfully, the mess didn’t last though.

The league’s vice president said a community group of about 20 people rallied Tuesday night to clean up the damage over a three-hour stretch.

“Everybody always asked why I moved back here and why I built my house in Wellsville. And last night was the reason why,” Jerry Beckley said. “Because we made one phone call, one text, one Facebook post, and everybody was here, you know? You hear that cliche saying, ‘It takes a village;’ but here in village, we always say ‘Once a tiger, always a tiger.’ And everybody was here pitching in. So it’s great.”

He added that thanks to the quick response, games were able to happen Wednesday night.
