WASHINGTON – On Friday, the White House made its debut on Bluesky, a social media platform that has garnered popularity among many progressive circles online.
In its first post, the White House account shared a dynamic compilation of memes, playful jabs, and messages from President Donald Trump’s tenure since his return to office nine months ago. The post appeared to be a lighthearted attempt to poke fun at liberals who are critical of the Republican president.
The initial post highlighted various moments from the administration’s early days in Trump’s second term. It featured references to an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico, a digitally altered image of Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero and a fake mustache, along with a collection of significant photos and videos.
“What’s up, Bluesky?” the White House captioned the video. “We thought you might’ve missed some of our greatest hits, so we put this together for you. Can’t wait to spend more quality time together!”
After Elon Musk acquired Twitter, now rebranded as X, in 2022, many disenchanted users began migrating to Bluesky, leading to a notable increase in its user base by the end of last year.
It remains small compared to more established online spaces such as X, but it has emerged as an alternative for those looking for a different mood.
The Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security also launched Bluesky accounts Friday.
Vice President JD Vance joined Bluesky in June.
Trump’s social media platform of choice is Truth Social. Trump is the biggest shareholder in Trump Media & Technology Group, the company that owns Truth Social.
