AUGUSTA, Ga. () – As the season of love blooms, local businesses are encouraging residents to shop locally, highlighting how it benefits both gift-givers and the community’s financial health.
From uniquely crafted floral arrangements to artisanal treats, Augusta’s entrepreneurs emphasize that their offerings provide a distinctive touch that chain stores often lack.
Annie Goble, who runs Annie B’s Farm, believes that her creations are driven by affordability and a strong sense of community.
“I’m thrilled to offer a service that resonates with people, and I strive to keep prices as accessible as possible so everyone can find something they love,” Goble expressed.
In recent days, Goble has been busy readying her products for those eager to express affection to their dear ones. Whether customers choose homegrown blooms, flower-themed cookies, or handcrafted soaps, her aim is to deliver heartfelt gifts while bolstering local ties—even amidst economic hurdles.
“It’s heartwarming. You get cleaner ingredients. You can see it’s not an everyday item that you can get,” she added.
Over at Angie’s Kitchen at Blooms, Boards, & More, owner Angie Hood says customization is what sets local shops apart.
She recalled one recent order that stood out.
“It’s unique things, unique items. I had a lady yesterday—she was so excited. She ordered a bouquet for her husband, and we did a nice little deer ribbon on it. He’s a hunter,” said Hood.
“It’s just more thoughtful gifts than just walking into the store and grabbing roses or something.”
Hood says hometown support plays a critical role in keeping small businesses open.
“Shopping local is important where, you know—the Walmarts and Target—people are going to shop there, so they don’t need you as much as we need you,” she said.
Both business owners say preparation for the day of love begins weeks in advance from baking and arranging to sourcing materials and designing specialty orders.
