TRI-CITIES, Tenn. (WJHL) – A diverse group of individuals converged in the Tri-Cities area to participate in the No Kings Protest, united by a common call for change.

On Saturday, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Johnson City, lining the sidewalks with signs and solidarity.

One of the protesters, a local veteran who served in the Navy from 1968 to 1972, expressed his concerns about the current state of veterans’ benefits and military affairs. “The way he’s dismantled veterans’ benefits, affected hospitals, and managed military drafts is troubling,” he said. “The War Department’s operations are just pathetic.”

This seasoned protester, who has attended several No Kings events, expressed hope for continued growth in participation. “This is the largest turnout I’ve seen so far. Each time, the numbers grow, which gives me hope that meaningful change is on the horizon,” he remarked.

“This is the most people I’ve seen here. Every time it’s increased, so that gives me hope that something will be done,” said the local veteran.

But it wasn’t just Johnson City that saw the protesting taking place. People also lined the sidewalks of the Twin Cities.

“Every protest I’ve been to, I have just loved the community coming out and begin together,” said a Bristol woman. “I don’t feel like I’m alone in my emotions and feelings about what’s going on.”

A Bristol woman in attendance for the Bristol No Kings Protest said “love” comes to her mind when at these events.

“This being my fourth protest, it’s giving me more strength because like I said, I know that there’s people out here that are like minded like me and if they want to come on down, I’ll be right here to put my arm around them, you know, and tell them it’s okay to feel this way,” said a Bristol woman.

Another No Kings Protest was set to be in Kingsport Saturday as well.
