WILMINGTON ISLAND, Ga. — Authorities have detained a person of interest in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 59-year-old woman, officials revealed on Tuesday.
The tragic incident came to light when officers from the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) responded to an emergency call at an apartment complex on the 100 block of Oyster Shell Road around 5 p.m.
According to a CCPD spokesperson, the woman appeared to have succumbed to stab wounds.
On Tuesday morning, police identified the woman’s 37-year-old son, Addison Martinez, as a person of interest. He was apprehended at a Parker’s convenience store near the Highlands at approximately 4:20 p.m.
Authorities discovered Martinez driving his mother’s vehicle, which was later found abandoned in a commercial parking lot in Pooler.
