TAMPA, Fla (WFLA) — It has been a headache for many people using airlines this week. Major winter storms forced thousands of delays and cancellations. Quite a bit of those impacts were felt at Tampa International Airport.

A snowstorm in the South shut down flights everywhere Friday.

“When I was at the airport there was a lot of cancelled flights. It was packed. It was not fun,” said Melissa Rivera, a traveler. “My flight was OK. The tarmac was slightly delayed because of the incoming flight from weather.”

There were three cancelled flights to Atlanta out of TPA Friday night. It was concerning to people trying to get a little further north.

“A couple worries about the weather up in Charlotte,” said Josh Wicks, a traveler. “The snow just hit today; I have to fly out tomorrow. It might be pushed off. I’m not really sure at the moment.”

TPA reported that 23% of its flights were delayed and 71 were cancelled. Across the country, FlightAware reported more than 3,800 cancelled flights total. Some travelers waited to hear if they could change their flights to see what’s going to happen next.

“Just watching and waiting to see if the flight actually gets off the ground,” Wicks said.

“Getting home, eh, I know what Charlotte-Douglas can be like when there’s weather,” Rivera said. “And I’m not looking forward to it if the snow continues tomorrow.”
