AUGUSTA, Ga. () – A woman has been charged with Cruelty to Children in the second degree after her 1-year-old son died at home in Augusta back in June.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30-year-old Genysis Lowery on Aug. 2.

According to an arrest warrant, Lowery is accused of of leaving “unsecured prescribed
liquid methadone medication on an eating table inside of a rear bedroom.” The children were reportedly playing “without adult supervision” and the medication spilled on the floor. Lowery removed the children from the bedroom and later cleaned up the spilled medication.

Lowery allegedly placed her child, identified the 16-month-old as Trae’son Dunn, into a play pen to sleep for the night, and hours later, the child was found to be unresponsive.

First responders arrived on the scene and the child was pronounced deceased.

Report results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Division of Forensic Sciences determined the child was positive for methadone, with levels of an overdose.
