JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) —A woman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a fatal 2022 overdose in Johnson City.

According to the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Lisa Garland pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Timothy Kuykendall on May 9, 2025.

“This death resulted from distribution of crack-cocaine that was laced with fentanyl,” the district attorney’s office stated in a news release.

Kuykendall was 24 at the time of his death in September 2022.

Garland’s plea also included a case from May 2022 when she was found transporting methamphetamine, cocaine, buprenorphine and a handgun, the release states.

Garland, 52, was sentenced to 28 years. Eighteen of those years must be spent in prison at 100%, and the remaining 10 years must be served at 85% on supervised release.

Garland was one of multiple people charged in Kuykendall’s death. Three other people were charged with second-degree murder after his fatal overdose.
