Woman arrested after ripping child's teeth out, claiming child had "demon inside of her"

LESTER, WV (WVNS) — A woman was arrested after she allegedly ripped a child’s teeth out while claiming the child “had a demon in her”.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a child abuse report in the Lester area of Raleigh County on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Once on scene deputies were able to determine that the suspect, identified as Rebecca Bailey, had allegedly pinned her five-year-old daughter down and tried to pull the young girl’s teeth out. Witnesses said Bailey was yelling that the girl “had a demon inside her” while she was holding a cross.

Two of the five-year-old’s bottom teeth were pulled out.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a family member woke up and got the child away from Bailey until deputies were able to arrive.

Rebecca Bailey was arrested and charged with Child Abuse Resulting in Injury. CPS and EMS services were both contacted and the child was taken to a safe place before she was released to a family member.

Bailey is being held at Southern Regional Jail under a $50,000 bond.
