URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A woman is facing attempted murder charges in Champaign County after prosecutors said she opened fire on a woman over a “disagreement” three months ago.

The shooting happened in January, but it wasn’t until Monday that Reyanna Dodd was arrested. She was arraigned on five counts the following day — two of attempted murder, two of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.

Julia Rietz, the Champaign County State’s Attorney, said during the arraignment that on Jan. 29, Dodd met a woman in Champaign to discuss taxes. The two already knew each other, Rietz said, but when they met that day, there was a disagreement between them.

Rietz said that Dodd went to her car, got a gun and fired three shots at the victim, who was sitting in her own car. The shots missed and the victim sped away, but Rietz said Dodd followed her and fired three more shots in her direction. This time, the bullets hit the victim’s car.

Dodd was not found the night of the shooting, but her car was described to officers. Rietz said that on Monday, officers pulled that car over for speeding. Dodd was driving, and Rietz said they found her in possession of a disassembled gun that was being carried openly and unlawfully.

Rietz said Dodd claimed to officers that she carried the gun disassembled, but her passenger refuted that, saying Dodd started disassembling it as she was pulled over.

Attempted murder is a Class X felony, and Judge Brett Olmstead found during arraignment that Dodd is eligible for a sentencing enhancement that could land her in prison for up to 50 years.

At arraignment on Tuesday, Dodd requested a preliminary hearing, which Judge Olmstead scheduled for May 7. Regarding pretrial detention, Rietz and the Public Defender’s Office agreed to continue that subject to Thursday.

Dodd will remain in custody until then.
