SULLIVAN, Ill. (WCIA) — A woman from Sullivan was arrested on a methamphetamine-related charge on Wednesday and could face up to 60 years in prison.

On March 5, investigators with the East Central Illinois Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence of Dorothy J. Meador, 59, in Sullivan. During the search, they discovered more than 20 grams of substances that tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. Per court records, Meador admitted to police that her plan was to sell the methamphetamine.

She further told police that she frequently traveled to Decatur to obtain methamphetamine, which she would sell at her home in Sullivan. Meador was then arrested for the offense of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, which is a Class X felony.

At a detention hearing on March 6, Moultrie County State’s Attorney Tracy Weaver argued that Meador should be denied pretrial release because her actions create a danger to the community. However, the Court, citing the SAFE-T Act, found that Meador’s alleged conduct did not rise to the level of endangering to the community as required by law.

As a result, Meador was released on home confinement pending a trial.

Meador would face a sentencing range of 6-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections without the eligibility of probation if she is convicted. She has been ordered to appear in court on July 10.
