CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A woman is in the hospital after sliding on black ice driving through Champaign. It happened Saturday on I-74.
Jessica Hollar has been a truck driver for the last three years. Family said she was driving a route she’s done hundreds of times when she started slipping. The truck went off the road and pinned her underneath.
Her face and neck were cut with glass. She now has stitches that go up the side of her face. As she’s recovering in a hospital bed, her family hopes the accident teaches people a lesson.
“She said she wasn’t even going the speed limit and it still happened,” nephew Jordan Hollar said. “So I would just say, no matter how confident of a driver you are, no matter how many times you’ve driven in snow and ice, just slow down, be careful, be aware. It’s just not worth risking your life.”
He said Jessica has undergone several surgeries and could have more coming up. Her family in northern Illinois has been making the three hour trip to Urbana to visit her at the hospital.
Along with her health, caring for her 17-year-old son is also a concern as medical bills pile up. You can support Jessica here.
