UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Lebanon, Virginia, woman was charged with a “plethora of crimes” after she was reportedly booked under a false identification given to police during a traffic stop in Unicoi County.

According to a release from the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Ashley Leanne Creech was arrested during a July 4 traffic stop for allegedly presenting another woman’s identification and being found in possession of fentanyl.

Deputies reportedly transported Creech to jail, where she was booked and fingerprinted under the false identification given to police during the traffic stop. The police department said in the release that Creech “looked similar” to the woman.

When Creech later went to court, she entered a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office and pleaded guilty in court, still using the false identification, according to the sheriff’s office.

Through another fingerprint submission, the Unicoi Sheriff’s Office then learned Creech’s true identity. Creech reportedly had “numerous” outstanding arrest warrants and was a fugitive from justice, the release said.

Deputies located the victim of the stolen identity, who said she had no connection to Creech. The woman had reported her identity and personal items stolen several months earlier in Washington County, Virginia.

Creech was charged with her original charges, which were not listed in the release, along with the following:

  • Two counts of identity theft
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of a Schedule I and III narcotic

The Unicoi Sheriff’s Office is working with officials in Virginia to continue the investigation.
