CHATHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — The YNOT Outdoors Kids Camp released a statement following the tragedy that occurred at their building in Chatham Monday afternoon.
In a post on Facebook, YNOT Founder Jaime Loftus addressed the loss of four female students — some as young as 7-years-old — and also revealed new details about the crash as it was caught on camera.
Loftus said the car that hit their building was seen leaving Walnut Street, traveling through a farm field and crossing Breckenridge Road, before hitting the building. Due to the time of the crash, there were students and staff present in the building for the after-school programs.
Her statement said in part:
It is with the heaviest heart that one can have, that I say we have loss of life and serious injuries.
The Illinois State Police are conducting their investigation, and as such, I will respect their wishes to allow them time to process all pieces of this horrific day, before communicating further.
I cannot gather the words to express much of anything that will make sense in print. However, I do know that our families who suffered loss and injury today, are hurting very, very badly. They are friends and their kids are like our kids. The Village of Chatham and Ball Chatham Schools are going to need their populations and that of the outside world to love them, pray for them, think of them and, at the same time, give them space and respect.
